My partner’s mother (who I would call my mother in law, except we aren’t married, and don’t get me started on THAT) brought this book to me from the old country. The old country being Wisconsin.
Inside the book was a printed recipe that looks like it might have come out of a magazine. It was for these…balls, and the original author didn’t know what to call them either. They are full of protein, so maybe protein spheres? Date globes?
Don’t google that. Just…trust me.
There are wicked easy to make. No baking, no bowls to clean up. Just the food processor and a plate to put them on. I altered this recipe slightly by adding more fruit.
1/2 cup old fashioned oats
1/2 cup raw cashews
1/2 cup raw almonds
1/4 cup unsweetened coconut flakes
1 T of ginger (or 1/4 cup chopped candied ginger)
1/8 cup dried currants
1/4 cup chocolate chips (optional…we used carob chips)
15 medjool dates, pitted
Pulse the oatmeal into a fine powder.
Add the nuts and pulse until they are little pieces.
Add coconut, ginger and currants until they are all in small pieces.
Add in the chocolate chips and dates, and pulse until it comes together and can be rounded into balls.
You can roll them in your hands, or use an ice cream scoop if you are OCD like me.
Yum, these look (and sound) really good.
James and his brother, Wes, came up with names like Holly’s Juicy Globes, Holly’s Lovely Spheres, Holly’s Mouth Full, Holly’s Bumpy Nuts, Holly’s Full Monty Globes, soooo, not really going to hold my breath for the mail because yeah.
Haha…I will still send you some, even if I don’t end up issuing. “Holly’s Bumpy Nuts”. (As much as I like the name…nobody likes bumpy nuts.)
